Transport & Access

Montreux Riviera, located in the heart of Europe, is easily accessible by 3 hours from all major European cities.

By plane

Direct flights serve Switzerland from more than hundred airports.
 

Geneva Airport

1 hour from Montreux (direct trains with departure every 30 minutes, bus, coach, car or private limousine transfers). Trip on the shores of Lake Geneva, panorama and magnificent view.

By car & coach

Nestled in the heart of Europe, the Montreux Riviera region is easily accessible by car via the Swiss motorway network. It is criss-crossed by the A1 motorway linking Austria to France.
 

Speed Limit

  • In town: 30 to 60 km/h (18 to 37 mph)
  • Out of town: 70 to 80 km/h (44 to 50 mph)
  • On the motorway: 100 to 120 km/h (62 to 75mph)
In Switzerland, the vignette is used as a toll on motorways. Available at a price of CHF 40.00, it is valid for the current year and until 31 January of the following year. It can be purchased in post offices or petrol stations.

By train

The main European and national railway lines converge on the Montreux Riviera region, which is connected every half hour with the whole of Switzerland.
 

TGV Lyria

The TGV Lyria connects many French cities to Switzerland, including Lausanne and Geneva.
  • Paris - Lausanne 4 daily round trips (Lausanne - Montreux > 19 minutes)
  • Paris - Geneva 8 daily return trips (Geneva - Montreux > 1h)
 

ICE

The ICEs connect Hamburg, Berlin or Frankfurt to Basel (Basel - Montreux > 2h36).
 

EuroCity

EuroCity tilting trains allow you to reach Montreux from Milan or Venice in 3 hours.

GoldenPass Line

The GoldenPass Line is one of the most picturesque routes in Switzerland. It connects the Vaud Riviera to Lake Lucerne.

By boat

The Compagnie Générale de Navigation (CGN) offers a regular service all along the shores of Lake Geneva, particularly between France and the 10 landing stages of the Montreux Riviera region.  

Getting around by public transport

 

CFF – railway

Montreux train station is only 10 minutes walk from the city centre. It provides easy access to the main cities in Switzerland and Europe.

VMCV - public buses

The main VMCV bus line is number 201 and runs every 10 minutes along the lake from Vevey to Villeneuve via Montreux.

Montreux Riviera Card

Swiss travel system

Thanks to Swiss Travel System tickets, you can travel the route of your choice on the entire network of trains, buses and boats in Switzerland.

Walking there

One of the many advantages of Montreux is the "Walking distance", 15 minutes on foot to cross the city centre of Montreux.

Visas & formalities

Depending on their nationality, travellers must have a valid passport or one that has been expired for less than 5 years, or a valid identity card. A visa is required for stays of more than three months. If your stay is less than three months, a valid passport is sufficient. These provisions apply to nationals of countries in North, Central and South America (except Belize, Bolivia, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Haiti, Jamaica, Colombia and Peru), Europe, Japan, Australia and New Zealand.
