The starting point can be reached in several ways. The Restaurant de la Cergniaulaz is accessible by car or you can take the train from Montreux to Avants. In the latter case a trip on the charming Avants-Sonloup funicular railway will also be necessary. Go there in the spring to admire the narcissus, often called "May snow" which throng the meadows through which the funicular railway passes.
The route is lined with "ecOtrace" information panels telling walkers of all ages about care of the environment. The path takes you first to the CAS "de la Pleigne" hut. This is followed by a wide and very pleasant stretch, a footpath in the forest and then a climb through the clearings to the Soladier pass at a height of 1,576 metres. From the pass you can admire the view over the Dent de Lys, le Moléson and Teysachaux. You will also find a large log-built shelter here where you can eat your picnic under cover. You must now climb straight up to the peak and then descend towards the Chessy mountain pasture. The descent takes you towards the Chalet de la Forcla and then ends at Cergniaulaz, a lovely little chalet at least a hundred years old with two small rooms straight out of "Hansel and Gretel".
Leave your car at la Cergniaulaz. Walk up the road towards la Planiaz (a CAS hut). At the fork take the right fork and drop down towards the farm. Follow the hillside above the farm towards the CAS hut. Then follow the forest track behind the CAS hut on the level through the forest.
Version A:
Sharp climb to the col de Soladier, a further climb straight up to the peak and then drop down towards the Plateau de Chessy. At the forester's chalet, on the right, continue downhill towards the chalet de la Forclaz, then towards the left to Cergniaulaz.
Version B:
Sharp climb to the col de Soladier, turn to the left and follow the forest track on the level towards the Plateau de Chessy. At the forester's chalet, on the right, continue downhill towards the chalet de la Forclaz, then towards the left to Cergniaulaz.
