Embark on a discovery of the splendors of UNESCO World Heritage site Lavaux’s wine terraces, with this widely accessible suggested excursion.

The town of Vevey is the perfect departure point for an excursion in Lavaux. From the Swiss Federal Railways station, take the train or the 218 bus to reach Chexbres in less than 20 minutes.

You have reached the village of Chexbres at the heart of Lavaux, a terraced UNESCO World Heritage winegrowing area. Start of the walk (down!) via the chemin de la Plantaz, in the direction of Rivaz.

Explore and taste some of the 300 locally produced Lavaux wines available at Lavaux Vinorama. Immerse yourself in A year in the life of a winegrower, a short film available in eight languages.

Short climb beside Le Forestay waterfall to reach the start of the Route des Grands Crus, or Great Wine Trail. This 2.8-km educational route is interspersed with information, anecdotes and delightful viewing points.

Foodie stop at Auberge du Vigneron, route de la Corniche 16, Epesses. The menu offers a lovely selection of local specialties to enjoy in the restaurant or on a splendid terrace with a view of the lake. Reservations strongly recommended.

A short, 20-minute walk in the direction of Cully to help you digest your meal. This charming winegrowing town beside the lake welcomes 50,000 to 70,000 spectators every spring for the Cully Jazz Festival.

Return to Vevey (or elsewhere) on board a beautiful Belle Epoque boat from the CGN. An excellent way to appreciate the beauty of the countryside from a radically different angle.
