The Gustave Courbet tour is a free cultural stroll through in La Tour-de-Peilz, mixing the artist's works in different places, such as an open-air museum.
This outdoor cultural stroll offers you the opportunity to discover La Tour-de-Peilz from a different angle: created in honour of the bicentenary of Gustave Courbet's birth (1819-1877), the eight points of interest of thematic devices retrace the places important to the artist who lived in La Tour-de-Peilz during the last 4 years of his life. As the exile forced him to retire to Switzerland, the landscape became an inspiration for his paintings and he quickly became part of local life.
This original thematic tour, located in the heart of the city, was designed by the cultural engineering agency Thematis and art historian Dominique Radrizzani. Visitors use the QR codes on the devices to have direct access to the website dedicated to the route. In addition to allowing visitors to orient themselves and follow the various points of interest from their smartphone, additional information is available free of charge. Audio recordings in three languages invite visitors to immerse themselves in the story of this character.
This cultural stroll is the ideal way to discover the Riviera region through an important character who lived in La Tour-de-Peilz and to whom Switzerland owes many famous landscape paintings of Lake Geneva.
