In 1952, Charlie Chaplin decided to settle at the Manoir de Ban in Corsier-sur-Vevey with his wife and children, four of whom were born in Switzerland. He lived there happily until his death in 1977. The famous bronze statue of The Tramp, created in his memory by British sculptor John Doubleday, has taken pride of place on Vevey promenade since 1982.
