Virtuosity mixed with the winter atmosphere of Montreux! The SBBC is the largest brass band competition in Switzerland, with more than 60 bands that compete on the stages of the Auditorium Stravinski and the Miles Davis Hall. This is the unmissable event for Switzerland’s best brass musicians.
For more than 20 years, the Stravinski Auditorium and the Miles Davis Hall at the Montreux Music & Convention Centre (2m2c) host the best of Switzerland's brass ensembles at the national brass band competition. This event brings together over 60 bands to be judged by an international panel of experts, who select a Swiss champion for each of the five categories competing. The winner of the ""Excellence"" category qualifies for the European championship, which takes place in a different venue each year (at Montreux in April 2011).
A brass band has around 35 musicians and is made up entirely of brass instruments (trumpet, trombone, tuba, etc.) and percussion instruments (drums, bass drums, kettle drums, etc.).This formation goes back to around 1850 in the coal mining regions of Great Britain. From the beginning, these contests enabled the bands to compete in a friendly atmosphere and contributed to the ongoing improvement of general musical standards.
