Strategically built on a narrow strip of land, between the Rhone and the mountain, just a few kilometers from Montreux, the Castle Porte de Scex once controlled the entrance to the Valais.
The castle had a double function that is reflected in its architecture. Its liveable southern part (Vouvry side), includes rooms adorned with woodwork and equipped with large windows. The northern part (Bouveret side) was defensive. It is presented in the form of high walls, pierced with arrow loops. A staircase leading up to the tower gives access to the defensive rooms. In the past, a crenelated wall, pierced by a door preceded by a moat and a drawbridge, closed the passage between the castle and the mountain and the second wall connected the castle and the Rhone; The whole made it possible to control the entry of the Valais and to tax both goods and travellers.
A large interactive 3D model of the Chablais, temporary exhibitions highlighting the Chablais heritage, cultural events and its vaulted cellar all contribute to animate the Castle. Apart from individual and group tours, guided tours on request with prior reservation can be organised.
The Castle Porte de Scex has a vaulted cellar that can be rented for conferences, aperitifs or meals.
