Cellars and wine tastings in Lavaux

Traditionally, each village in the Lavaux UNESCO region has its winemaker’s cellar. Each winemaker in the village takes their turn to serve walkers and people from the area, usually a few nights a week and Saturday mornings for the inevitable aperitif.

In Lavaux, some cellars still have their typical appearance with their stone arches and their wooden furniture. Others, such as the Bacchus Vinobar from Rivaz or Le Caveau Corto in Grandvaux, have more modern surroundings. As well as the village cellars, there are private "carnotzets" (traditional bars), managed by winegrowers or those passionate about wine.

For walks and gourmet travellers, the cellars provide a unique opportunity to meet the producers and to combine a walk in the vineyard with gourmet moments of relaxation. They mix locals from the region, who meet up after work or come to stock up on wine, with the winemakers and tourists.
