Balfolk brings together European dances—some ancient (bourrées, branles—6th century), others more recent (the waltz—19th century)—sometimes adapted, with a swaying rhythm, and blended with other influences (forró, salsa). These dances can be group, partner, or solo dances; they do not require traditional costumes and are contemporary.
