Manners and customs
Switzerland, a “clean and tidy” country?
Visitors passing through are always impressed by its discipline (for example, pedestrians patiently await the green light to the cross the road, and drivers stop at the slightest sign of a pedestrian near a pedestrian crossing) and Switzerland’s sense of cleanliness (people walking along keep their rubbish in their hands until these find a litter bin, cigarette buts are not stamped out on the ground,…).
The little green boxes with same-coloured plastic bags, surprise many people too: these are bags available for dog-owners to pick up their pet’s droppings from the pavement.
Well-known as a watchmaking nation, most Swiss hotly defend their painstaking punctuality. It is not the done thing to arrive late for a business meeting, and a suit is till a sign of respect.
