Villa " Le Lac " Le Corbusier

A small house ideally situated on the shores of Lake Geneva, near Vevey, la Villa “Le Lac” is a masterpiece of contemporary architecture. Designed by the famous Swiss architect Le Corbusier, la Villa has been listed on July 17th 2016 as an UNESCO World heritage site. The villa can be visited during weekends in the summer. Bookings are required for groups.

A leading example of Le Corbusier’s modern architecture in Switzerland, la Villa Le Lac (the humblest of the "white villas") can now be considered a real laboratory of architecture. It is a great illustration of Le Corbusier’s principles, such as for example seeking to achieve a human scale, strict attention to proportion or the optimal use of each area. On July 17th 2016, The 21 member countries of the UNESCO World Heritage Committee decided to recognize 17 architectural works of Le Corbusier, including la Villa Le Lac, as an exceptional contribution to the Modern Movement.

Le Corbusier’s parents moved into the villa in 1924. His father died a year later, but his mother lived there for many years. Some of the furniture and items on show in the villa are original, like the writing desk and chest of drawers (designed by Le Corbusier in his young years), Madame Jeanneret’s sling chair or the table in the living room.
